India to have mobile number begining with ‘8′

The mobile subscribers in India were around 415 million by May 2009 end compared to 277 million an year ago. Considering the pace at which mobile subscribers are growing, DoT is toying the idea of 11 digit mobile numbers.

As DoT will be running out of mobile numbers starting with ‘9′ soon, and they will introduce 100 million new mobile numbers begining with the digit EIGHT ‘8′. Half of these would be allotted to the Operators.
