Mobile Number Portability to miss September 2009 Deadline

by DJ on Jul.31, 2009, under Mobile Number Portability

It is very likely that the Cellular Phone Operators may miss the September 2009 Deadline for implementation of Mobile Number Portability in India. MNP has already been delayed by 1 year.

It is being said that the implementation of MNP would be delayed due to the delay in announcement of certain guidelines by the Government.

Mr. T. V. Ramchandran, DG of COAI said “The industry has asked for certain clarifications and the Government is yet to come out with the new guidelines. The members will go through the guidelines before implementing.”

A couple of more months delay is expected and it is safe to assume that MNP would be rolled out only in the next year – 2010. It is clear that Cellular Operators want MNP to be delay as much as possible so that they can hold on to their subscribers who are sticking with them only for their Mobile Number.
