DoT thinking of 4G even when 3G hasn’t rolled out yet

The Spectrum Policy on 3G has not been finalised yet and no sign of auctions in next few months and DoT is already talking about 4G. The Government and it’s Department’s need to give priorities to issue at hands and stick to it. It would be better if DoT, TRAI, Govt and EGoM use their energy and resources to finalise 3G Policy and complete the auctions.
This is like planning for your second kid when your wife is not even pregnant for the first time.
3G Auctions likely to be delayed again to next Year

As always, it seems that the 3G Spectrum Auctions which were likely to be held in September this year are delayed to the next year. It is being said that the Government may not get the expected Revenue from auctioning the 3G Spectrum as of now amidst the Global Recession.
MTNL Mumbai launches 3G HSDPA – Wireless Broadband

MTNL Mumbai has recently launched 3G HSDPA Data Services in Mumbai. The maximum download speeds are upto 3.6 Mbps and upload speeds are upto 384 Kbps.

It is reported that BSNL will be launching 3G Services by 15th August in Gangtok, Sikkim. The announcement was made by Mr. Sachin Pilot in Gangtok.
Indian Government fixed reserve price for 3G Auctions

After various meetings and stuff, the Government of India has finally fixed the reserve price for the 3G Spectrum Auction at Rs. 4,040 crores. This would help the Government of India earn at least Rs. 32,320 crores. An agreement has reached between the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and Telecom Minister Mr. A. Raja.
DoT has enough 3G Bandwidth for up to 12 Players in India

As the defence services have agreed to vacate 10 Mhz of spectrum pan India, now the Department of Telecommunications [DOT] has enough 3G bandwith between 4 to 12 Players/Operators per circle. This includes the State run BSNL and MTNL. Have a look at the table below to get an idea of the same.
Divided we fall – Communication and Finance Ministries on Indian 3G Auctions

As expected there will be more delays in the auction of 3G spectrum in the country due to differences between the Ministry of Communcations and the Ministry of Finance. These auction have already been delayed a lot.
Further Delay in BSNL’s upcoming Mega Rs. 30,000 Crores GSM Project

BSNL had floated separate tenders for 2G and 3G equipment worth Rs. 30,000 crores in total.
Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has filed a fresh complaint to the Integrity Panel stating that it has been unjustly singled out of the bidding process for non submission of Experience Certificate.
Nokia Siemens Networks however says that even Ericsson’s bid should have been rejected as even Ericsson had not filed separate Experience Certificate for 2G Equipment.
BSNL had rejected bids from Nokia Siemens Network, Alcatel Lucent and ZTE. BSNL had short listed only Ericsson and Huawei.
