DoT thinking of 4G even when 3G hasn’t rolled out yet

The Spectrum Policy on 3G has not been finalised yet and no sign of auctions in next few months and DoT is already talking about 4G. The Government and it’s Department’s need to give priorities to issue at hands and stick to it. It would be better if DoT, TRAI, Govt and EGoM use their energy and resources to finalise 3G Policy and complete the auctions.

This is like planning for your second kid when your wife is not even pregnant for the first time.

India to have mobile number begining with ‘8′

The mobile subscribers in India were around 415 million by May 2009 end compared to 277 million an year ago. Considering the pace at which mobile subscribers are growing, DoT is toying the idea of 11 digit mobile numbers.

DoT has enough 3G Bandwidth for up to 12 Players in India

As the defence services have agreed to vacate 10 Mhz of spectrum pan India, now the Department of Telecommunications [DOT] has enough 3G bandwith between 4 to 12 Players/Operators per circle. This includes the State run BSNL and MTNL. Have a look at the table below to get an idea of the same.
